Liposuction is a method of body sculpting, body contouring involving removal of excess, unsightly fat from specific areas of the body. Liposuction can be done in abdomen, hips, buttocks, back, thighs, knees, calves, ankles, upper arms, jowls, cheeks and neck.
These localized fat deposits may sometimes be inherited and typically do not respond to dieting or exercise. Liposuction is often the only way to improve them.
You should have firm and elastic skin tone and have excessive fatty deposits in certain body areas. Keep in mind that liposuction removes fat, not loose skin. Age is not a deciding factor, but many older patients have less elastic skin, so they may not get optimal results.
Liposuction can be done alone or with other surgical procedures such as a breast reduction or tummy tuck. In addition, liposuction can be performed on several areas of the body at once.
How is it done?

Liposuction is typically performed under local anaesthesia with Twilight Sedation , but in some bigger cases general anaesthesia must be used.
A surgical marker is used before surgery to help plan the liposuction procedure.
How long does the surgery take?
The time in surgery varies, depending on the size of the area being treated. It can span from 30 minutes to five hours. If you choose to have multiple areas treated at once, the procedure will take longer.
What should I expect during recovery, risk factors?
1.The suctioned areas will be swollen and uncomfortable for several days after liposuction. Pain killer will settle this easily.
2. There will be a small amount of blood stained discharge from the incisional holes to the the Tumescent solution to escape. This is NOT bleeding. It is a normal process. Don’t panic. You must not sleep your normal bed without water proof plastic sheet to protect your mattress and quill sheet.
3. You must wear the garment, day and night , for quite a few weeks.
4. The final shape and out come takes a few months to settle.
5.If you have excessive fat volume, it will most likely you will have loose skin. This is especially in the lower limbs and buttock. You will need surgery to lift the loose area . This is call body lift .( see the different section) and additional fee chargeable.
6.It is recommended for you to move soon after surgery, as this will decrease the risk of blood clots that can occur from long periods of being sedentary.
7. You will be allowed to return to work or your light activities in a few days. Strenuous activity or work is to be avoided for at least three weeks.
The final results may not be evident for up to six months, but they are permanent (assuming that your weight remains stable). Depending on how gently the procedure was performed, you may see some preliminary results as early as one week.
What are the costs involved?
Surgeon fees start from $2,200* per area including GST.
*The cost of cosmetic surgery can vary (higher or lower), depending on the complexity of the procedure, the required results, cost of implants, aftercare treatment and the area of the body where the surgery is being performed.
