INVERTED NIPPLE / NIPPLE AREOLAR COMPLEX SURGERY
During puberty, there are many bodily structural changes taking place. Sometimes some of these seconsary sexual characteristics may fail to develop properly and as a result deformity may occur, structurally as well as functionally.
Female breast development – such as the size of the breast as well as nipple areolar complex are often affected by this developmental process.
Nipple retraction or inversion is quite common. In minor cases, the retracted nipples can protrude when stimulated and retract orinvert when relaxed. In severe cases, the nipple will stay retracted permanently and often cannot secrete milk due to permanent damage.
Dr Tiong always performs the duct sparing procedure when performing nipple inversion correction surgery. This means that if you have not breast -fed before and the integrity of your milk ducts is intact, you will be able to breast feed after delivery. On the other hand, if your ducts have been damaged as part of the developmental process, the duct sparing procedure cannot reverse this damage.
How this is done?
Surgery is often performed under local anesthetic with sedation. Should you prefer to have the procedure performed in a hospital, this can be arranged.
What should I expect after surgery?
1. You will need to be taken home by a family member or friend.
2. The dressing must not be disturbed for 3-5 days.
